


Canadian drummer, composer and bandleader Jay Boehmer has been performing on the Toronto jazz scene since 1990. Composing at the piano with the spirit of a drummer, his music ranges from straight-ahead swing to offbeat rhythmic grooves. His compositions have been influenced by artists such as Pat Metheny, Steve Coleman, Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
In August of 1999, Jay released his debut CD Don't Look Back at The Top O' The Senator jazz club in Toronto. The disc features 10 of Jay's original compositions as well as Juno award winning saxophone great Pat LaBarbera (Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones). Don't Look Back has been played on a variety of radio stations including CBC National Radio, CJRT and Canadian campus radio. Jay's group has also been featured on CBC Television and City TV.
Jay attended the Jazz Programme at Humber College as a performance major and studied privately with Paul DeLong, Roger Flock and Don Vickery. Jay has also been influenced by many great drummers including Tony Williams, "Philly Joe" Jones and Roy Haynes.
Jay Boehmer Jazz has performed at many clubs and restaurants in Toronto including the Montreal Bistro, the Rex Jazz Bar and the Art Gallery of Ontario. This group was also featured at the 1998 Streetsville Jazz Festival.
Jay Boehmer Jazz is available for private parties and corporate functions. Some of Jay's clients include the Canadian Olympic Association, The Toronto Star and National Public Relations.
